Abstract
- The aim of the study is to determine the sources from which parents can access the knowledge they need in the development process of their children, to reveal the problem areas they encounter and the education issues they demand in relation to these problem areas. Accordingly, 154 parents were reached by using the "Parental needs analysis questionnaire form" and "Personal information form". The current study showed that parents had troubles regarding behavioral management / problem, psychological support, sibling relationships, healthy nutrition (for the child), technology addiction, academic development, adolescence problems and health issues. Another finding indicated that the parents needed the education subjects related to healthy parental attitudes, communication skills, behavior management, providing sleep patterns and toilet training, educational guidance, and nutrition. It has been determined that the sources which parents obtain information for their personal development in child education were Internet resources, friends, books, teachers, psychological counselor / psychologist, and family elders. As a result, it was concluded that parents have more problems with their children on some issues and need parent education. It is thought that it is important to organize parent training for professional groups that provide services to parents, especially teachers and counselors working in schools and pre-school institutions, and to empower parents through these professional groups.
