Abstract

Globally, healthcare associated infections accompany the activities of hospitals and have a serious impact on health, which is exacerbated by the multiple resistances of the pathogens that cause them. This leads to both increased morbidity and mortality rates and increased treatment costs. The treatment of severe and extensive burns is complex - surgical and intensive. The widespread use of invasive procedures and multiple therapies expose patients to increased risk [3]. The aim of the study was to establish the opinion of nurses on the safety of intensive care and approaches to the prevention of healthcare associated infections in burn patients. Material and methods. The study used a documentary method, a sociological (survey) method and a graphical method to illustrate the results. The study was conducted in the period 2019-2020 among 249 nurses working in intensive care facilities. Results and discussion. Just over half (54.47%) of nurses partially follow the rules for preventing the risk of infections in invasive procedures and techniques. Over a third (36.55%) of them have skills in applying dressings, but only 16.87% have knowledge of modern wound treatments. Conclusion. Prevention of infections in the treatment of burns requires in-depth knowledge of the frequency, sources of infections, identification of risk factors that increase the likelihood of developing an infection and resistance to treatment among the causes for infection. Up-to-date information on the size of the problem serves as a starting point for formulating strategies aimed at good medical practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
