Abstract

The article reports on a case of late neuropsychiatric syndrome (LNS) after carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. LNS is characterized by personality changes, movement disorders, and cognitive and/or neurological deficits. It is highlighted that the presence of acute brain lesions in diffusion-weighted images during the acute phase of CO poisoning is associated with a higher risk of developing LNS. Treatment with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) is recommended as soon as possible, and a case of LNS improvement after a combined umbilical cord blood stem cell transplant with other therapies is mentioned.
