Abstract

The article evaluates media for the successful culture of filamentous organism, Flexibacter maritimus. Flexibacter maritimus (F maritimus) is the causal agent of "marine flexibacteriosis", an important infectious disease affecting cultured marine fish in Japan and Europe. Various culture media were tested for the recovery of F maritimus from field samples. The growth ability of F. maritimus on selective Flexibacter medium (SFM) and Flexibacter maritimus medium (FMM) were done. Because SFM has the disadvantage of containing neomycin, which selects only the resistant maritimus strains without providing higher cell yields than FMM, the preferred medium is FMM.
