Juridical treatment given to family agriculture in Brazil as a means of sustainable production is analyzed through the hypothetical and deductive method couple to an investigation on legislation and on books and articles. Family agriculture became visible in Brazil during the 1990s when several public policies were established to foment the activity. Normative treatment given to family agriculture in Brazil evidences its benefits such as healthy and diversified food, crop rotation and boosting of local economy.
