Abstract

Natural law was the most used concept to undestand the native american society and to argue about hispanic control over indians. At the 16th century, however, we can identify two natural law’s scholastic doctrines: thomism and scotism. More of the research have focused on natural law according to thomism. In this document, we explain Duns Scoto’s thougth on natural law to analyze how the franciscans missionaries used it in evangelizing and colonizing undertakin. This point out a very different perspective, about themes like indian rationality or hispanic authority, than the research on thomism in New Spain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
