Abstract
- This article examines a curriculum approach to the teaching of Ancient History in the context of contemporary Queensland Secondary School Education. Underpinned by transformative teaching principles, specific teaching and learning strategies are discussed exploring their potential to engage, give a voice to, and enable students to critique the dominant paradigm. This kind of approach not only has potential to reveal history's relevance for contemporary living, it also teaches skills crucial for lifelong leaning. It has transformative potential because it teaches students how to skilfully and persuasively challenge authority to resist practices that ought not be supported and to be conscious of discriminatory practices that exist across time.
