Abstract

However, an isolated, inland population of red mangrove trees (Rhizophora mangle) grows along the San Pedro Mártir River, 170 kilometers from the coast, in the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico. Mangrove trees typically grow on the coast in saline or brackish water. Plant surveys tallied nearly 100 coastal species in the inland mangrove forest in addition to the red mangrove trees.
