Abstract

The article presents the discussion on single-cell organism self-producing oxygen for ammonia oxidation. Topics include microbial plankton in the oceans playing a key role in the marine nitrogen and carbon cycle; and anoxic conditions producing oxygen for ammonia oxidation by itself while simultaneously reducing nitrite to nitrous oxide (N2O).
