Abstract

Other current attempts to merge the classical gravitational field of general relativity with the quantum field theories of the standard model of physics also make an appearance, but here we see how two young physicists were inspired by the problem, and how they were primarily responsible for the development of the area. He tells this story with a deft touch that interweaves the development of the theory of Loop Quantum Gravity (LQG) with key moments in the careers of two scientists whose contributions have been central to its development: Lee Smolin and Carlo Rovelli. Like the various interpretations of the results of quantum mechanics, there are different ways to view the consequences of the theory of LQG. [Extracted from the article]
