Abstract

This paper established a two?dimensional hydrodynamic model, verified the correctness of the model by water balance method and then applied it to analyze the effect of levee?breach width and roughness on flood routing in protected zone of the Yellow River. The results show that the effect of the roughness is small. The effect of levee?breach width is obvious, there is an obviously increase of inundated area and flood routing speed with the increase of levee?breach width. When the longer distance of flood routing and larger inundated area will be, the increase of levee?breach width will cause greater losses compared with the roughness in flood protected zone. Moved to close the breach as soon as possible can decrease losses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
