Abstract
- This article is an expanded version of an intervention at a colloquium on the work of Victor Stoichita: "The Pygmalion Effect: On a Historical Anthropology of Simulacra." We can follow the main threads in this book by revisiting the details from a psychoanalytic point of view. Pygmalion, the author tells us, is the founding myth of the simulacrum; following him along this line of thought leads us to examine, more closely, the topics of fetishism and perversion, which are linked to a difficulty inherent in humans, that of not being able to give up their primary objects.
