Abstract

Background. One of the most widely produced and in-demand polymers in industry is sodium salt of carboxymethylstarch (Na-CMS). The Na-CMS is mainly used in the form of high-viscose solutions in the food, medical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, textile, paper, oil and gas industries. Therefore, the study of the viscosity of Na-CMS in aqueous solutions is of great practical importance. Purpose. To study the effect of concentration, exchange rate, environment, temperature and inorganic salts on the viscosity, which is one of the important physical properties of aqueous solutions of Na-CMS. Methodology. The viscosity of Na-KMK in dilute aqueous solutions was determined by viscometry. pH of the solutions was controlled. Originality. Optimal conditions for obtaining solutions with high viscosity were determined by studying the viscosity of Na-KMK aqueous solutions. Findings. During the experiments, with decrease of the concentration of Na-CMS in aqueous solutions, their viscosity increased sharply; aqueous solutions of Na-CMS with high viscosity were obtained in the alkaline medium pH = 8-10;adding of inorganic salts (NaCl, KCl) in aqueous solutions of Na-CMS leads to a decrease in their viscosity.
