Abstract

The article presents the discussion on Gummy stem blight (GSB) being a major disease of watermelon leading to significant economic losses. Topics include disease being caused by three genetically distinct Stagonosporopsis species, S. cucurbitacearum (syn. Didymella bryoniae), S. citrulli, and S. caricae; and showing extensive defoliation with symptoms observed on the cotyledons, hypocotyls, leaves, and fruit.
