Abstract
- This study aims to compare the shape evolution of the titanium carbide (TiC) particles in different systems after immersion in hydrofluoric acid (HF) solution for different times of 48 and 96 h. The TiC particles were synthesized via the mechanical allying method in three systems of Ti–C, Ti–Al–C, and Ti–Si–C. Results indicated the different shape evolutions for the prepared TiC particles in different systems after HF treatment. After 96 h immersion, the morphologies of spherical, cubic, and octahedron were respectively observed for Ti–C, Ti–Al–C, and Ti–Si–C systems. The lattice parameter values and the presence of impurities in the systems were introduced as the main reasons for the appearance of different morphologies of TiC particles in three systems.
