Conflicts of loyalty are examined based on the observer minutes of a small group of the first Trialog Conference in 2015. The statements of the participants are analyzed from the perspective of how the participants perceive belonging to a nation, how internal conflicts arise, how they are experienced, and possible resolutions to address them. Betrayal, assumption of responsibility, and transgenerational transmission of trauma emerged as central topics. It shows that conflict management is initially carried out through distancing, or through a „moratorium", and how a new identity is formed.
