This paper, from the perspective of the history of mentalities, studies the historical social imaginary spread by the European society of the 18th century around the masonic phenomenon. Through the analysis of the social mentality of New Spain, the processes of interpretation and reinterpretation of the Masonic and anti-Masonic experiences are exposed.
