Abstract

• CO 2 and SRB were the main factors of shale gas pipeline corrosion and perforation. • Pre-cultured with culture medium increased the corrosion rate of the steel, and SRB catalytic corrosion process. • CO 2 promotes bacterial film formation and accelerates corrosion. • Bacterial enrichment is the main cause of pitting corrosion. In the shale gas field in southern Sichuan Basin, the corrosion-induced failure has been observed. In this paper, first, the corrosion phenomenon was analyzed. Second, the causes of corrosion were analyzed thoroughly from the aspects of corrosive environment, materials, and corrosion products. Finally, the field water environment was simulated, and the result showed the following: SRB is one of the main causes of corrosion and perforation of shale gas pipelines, bacterial enrichment is the primary reason for local corrosion, and CO 2 promotes the formation of bacterial film and accelerates corrosion.
