Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to investigate and identify the views of teachers on the effect of historical series and movies on the Social Studies course. The study was conducted in line with the case study, one of the qualitative research designs. The study group of the research consisted of a total of 20 Social Studies teachers teaching in the province of Ağrı. Semi-structured interview form was used as data collection tool in the study. The data obtained were analyzed by the descriptive analysis method. When the findings obtained from the study are examined, it is clearly seen that while the majority of the teachers participating in the study had a positive perspective on the use of history-based TV series and movies in lessons, a small number of teachers expressed that history-based TV series and movies would cause the students to learn some historical knowledge and information wrongly, encourage and they stated that they found it inconvenient since they had content (obscene scenes) that would set a bad example to students. Teachers thought that their students mostly watched the TV series titled Diriliş Ertuğrul (Ertuğrul, the Resurrection), Kuruluş Osman (Foundation of the Ottoman), Uyanış: Büyük Selçuklu (Awakening: The Great Seljuk), Payitaht Abdülhamid (Abdülhamid on the throne) Muhteşem Yüzyıl (The Magnificent Century) and the historical movies titled Fetih 1453 (The Conquest of 1453), Çanakkale 1915, Türkler Geliyor (The Turks Are Coming!), Adaletin Kılıcı (The Sword of Justice). They stated that they themselves mostly watched the TV series of Diriliş Ertuğrul (Ertuğrul, the Resurrection), Kuruluş Osman (Foundation of the Ottoman), Elveda Rumeli (Farewell Rumelia), and Uyanış: Büyük Selçuklu (Awakening: The Great Seljuk) and the historical movies titled Fetih 1453 (The Conquest of 1453), Kara Murat, Battal Gazi, Çanakkale 1915 and Ayla. Most of the teachers stated that they could benefit mostly from the history-based series or movies in transferring the "Culture and Heritage" learning domain and the relevant subjects in this domain to the students.
