Abstract

Objective: To validate the Chinese Short Version of the Parental Burnout Assessment (S-PBA), and provide a shortand convenient measurement for the parental burnout. Methods: Taking families as a unit, 614 families in Central China were surveyed twice with an interval of one month. In total, 360 fathers and 337 mothers completed questionnaires at the first survey, 296 fathers and 344 mothers completed questionnaires at the second survey. Parents were asked to answer the Parental Burnout Assessment (PBA), Chinese Maslach Burnout Inventory (CMBI), Short version of Big Five Personality Bipolar Adjective Rating Scale (BRS)at the first survey, and PBA, MBI, and Couple Burnout Measure (CBM) at the second survey. Totally 443 samples who completed two survey were selected to calculate the test-retest reliability. Results: S-PBA showed a single factor structure in both father and mother sample. The correlation coefficients between S-PBA and PBA were 0. 96 - 0. 98 (Ps < 0. 01), and the absolute value of correlations between S-PBA and job burnout, agreeableness and neuroticism, marriage burnout were 0. 35 - 0. 61 (Ps < 0. 05) . There was no significant difference in the detection rate of parental burnout between S-PBA and PBA (Ps > 0. 05). These results suggested S-PBA had satisfied validity. Meanwhile, the a coefficients were 0. 91-0.95, and the test-retest reliabilities were above 0. 70. Conclusion: The Chinese Short Version of the Parental Burnout Assessment shows good validity and reliability, and the detection effectiveness is equally to PBA. The S-PBA is a short and convenient measurement for the parental burnout. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
