Abstract

During her early years at MIT, Turkle observed and interviewed hundreds of different computer users, including children, hackers, top-ranking AI scientists, and ordinary users of the increasingly sophisticated machines being produced. Sherry Turkle is a widely recognized commentator on modern cyberculture, whose general views are epitomized in her book titles such as I Simulation and Its Discontents i , I Alone Together i , and I Reclaiming Conversation: The Power of Talk in a Digital Age i . Turkle's account of her coming of age in the Radcliffe/Harvard/MIT academic cultures of the late 1960s through the 1970s will interest intellectual historians of that period.
