Abstract

The article presents comments on the development of pathological dependence after intermittent use of sodium glutamate, but not sucrose or sodium chloride solutions. Topics include provide scientific evidence showing the involvement of the opioid system that led to pathological glutamate dependence; and to investigate whether intermittent consumption of sucrose, sodium chloride and monosodium glutamate solution can lead to development of pathological dependence with changes to opioid system.
