Abstract

The ergonomic activity analysis lends itself well to the synchronic study of work and of its diversity, "here and now". If a holistic understanding of working conditions is to be developed and their temporal changes taken into account, the joint use of other disciplines (sociology, epidemiology, work and organisational psychology, etc.) and other methods (e. g. questionnaire survey) is useful. The communication examines the contribution of ergonomists to the enrichment of a traditional tool in human resources management - the employee satisfaction survey. Based on a study within a large Swiss public administration, it illustrates possible complementarities between activity ergonomics and a statistical approach to occupational health. The paper presents the main changes in working conditions - as perceived by staff - over the last decade. It also discusses the use that can be made of the satisfaction survey as an instrument for prevention and organisational development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
