Abstract
- New series of diazenylschiff's bases of salicylaldehydes were synthesized. The new diazenylschiff's bases were synthesized by condensation reaction of 5-(3-bromophenyldiazo)salicylaldehyde with various amines such as aromatic amines, sulfa drugs, naphthalenes, aminoantipyrine and aminothaizoles. The antimicrobial activity for the synthesized diazenylschiff's bases was screened against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as fungal strains. The mean values of the obtained inhibition zone diameter for the synthesized compounds suggested that most of the Schiff's bases possess significant antifungal activity against Aspergillus fumigatus. Most of the Schiff's bases possess moderate activity against Bacillus subtilis and Candida albicans. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
