Abstract

The article describes the function of biological body-fluid detection dogs in rape and murder crime scenes in South Africa. Topics discussed include the ability of such dogs to detect deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) evidence on crime scenes which are important to the outcome of a criminal case, role of the rising number of serious and violent crime in the decision of the South African Police Service (SAPS) to train dogs, and training undergone by a detection dog handler.
