This article reports that an assistant warehouse manager of Costco Corp. filed a national sex discrimination class action lawsuit in San Francisco, California. The suit charges that Costco denies women promotions to high-paying assistant and general store manager positions. Fewer than one in six of Costco's senior store managers are women, yet its workforce is nearly 50 percent female. The suit was brought by Shirley Rae Ellis, an assistant manager in Costco's warehouse in Douglas County, Colorado. All of Costco's operations vice-presidents are male, while only two of its 33 executive and senior officers are female.
