Abstract

The overall number of female consultant urologists in the UK has increased from 3% (1991) to 10.3% (2019), and although the numbers of consultants and trainees have both increased, a large gender gap still exists [2]. Mind the gap: gender trends for urology in the UK over the last 5 years (2015-2019) It is therefore a good time to make urology more accessible and interesting at medical schools and, given that 59% of this intake are women, obtaining more interaction at a grass roots level would encourage more women to take up urology, also helping us with the workforce issues of the future.
