Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the work of journalists in the city of Loja. The approach used is qualitative, it allows a deep analysis of the subjective and intersubjective meanings that are part of the realities of journalistic work. The study sample is intentional, it is made up of 10 journalists, including 5 radio communicators and 5 television reporters linked to the different media in the city. The instruments used for data collection were: the website of the Information and Communication Council of Ecuador (CORDICOM), semi-structured interview and digital tracking of the data disseminated on their personal social networks of the participating journalists. The results show that in emergency contexts: a) the use of virtual platforms is essential for remote work, b) distancing due to Covid-19 affects journalistic work, but it is not the only cause c) due to health crisis, journalists and reporters are concerned about job uncertainty, the risk to their health and the emotional impacts of coverage.
