Abstract

This is a question that is not solely a problem for Koopman - all information and media theory faces it - but Koopman's careful conceptualisations of the nature of infopower seem to make these questions even more pressing. Koopman, Colin How We Became Our Data: A Genealogy of the Informational Person. Crucially, Koopman observes that multiple surveyors have thereby located the power of data via Foucault's signature conceptualizations of power: these are the now-familiar arguments that contemporary informational apparatus are our newest instantiations of disciplinary power or biopower. Koopman is interested in examining information I before i information theory. [Extracted from the article]
