Abstract

This reasoning is empirically grounded on the study of the Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), a state agency founded in 1924 with the aim of managing and controlling religion. Ceren Lord's book provides an insightful and systematic analysis of the intertwined relationships between state, religion and society in Turkey. Most assuredly, as a chameleonic state religious apparatus the Diyanet epitomizes one of the arenas where Islam and the state contaminate each other. [Extracted from the article]
