Abstract

Lupus nephritis (NL) is one of the most severe consequences that affects patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). One of the diagnostic criteria for LN is glomerulonephritis. LN it divides itself into classes that vary according to kidney injury. Renal biopsy in the evaluation of impairment of the renal system in patients with SLE has become necessary to define the degree of impairment and the class of LN in which the patient is. It is a more common disease in women in the reproductive phase, being among nine women for each man affected by the disease, and with the variant prevalence of 14 to 50/100,000 inhabitants. This work is a descriptive and exploratory bibliographic review based on scientific articles found between 1988 and 2020. The present study consists in the early identification of the impairment of the renal system in patients with SLE, in order to try to prevent and/or delay the advance of the disease to its final stage, which is renal failure.
