Abstract
- Rebars made of carbon fibres for the use in civil engineering: part 4: fatigue behaviour – tensile fatigue of carbon rebars During the last years, the use of non‐metallic reinforcement in the building industry increased significantly. However, especially in Germany, the research focus was lied on textile reinforcement during the last two decades. But now rebars are taken into account as well. For the use of these reinforcing elements in structures, characterized by fatigue loading, the fatigue behaviour of carbon rebars has to be investigated. In the presented study, the tensile fatigue behaviour of carbon rebars was investigated. Hereby, stress‐number of cycles to failure (S‐N) curves were created and residual strengths of runouts were examined. Furthermore, the elongation and stiffness of the rebars during fatigue loading were regarded. Finally, it can be stated that the fatigue behaviour of the carbon rebars, which can be assigned to fiber‐reinforced polymers (FRP), also corresponds by and large to the known fatigue behavior of FRP.
