Characteristic decompositions of the 3 × 3 reducible quasilinear strictly hyperbolic system.

In this paper, we study the decomposition of characteristics for the 3 × 3 reducible quasilinear strictly hyperbolic system. We obtain a sufficient condition for the existence of the decomposition of characteristics. As an application, we show that the state adjacent to a constant state is a simple wave.
