Abstract
- Ambient air quality monitoring for PM10, PM2.5 and respirable crystalline silica was performed at five sites around multiple quarries, and a sixth background site, in a rural-residential environment over a four-month period during the summer of 2017-18. This paper investigates: • Correlations between gravimetric (reference) methods and light scattering methods; • Ratio of fine and coarse fractions; • Measured PM10 concentrations within 200 m of quarries and a background monitoring location 5 km away; and • Suggested dust nuisance trigger threshold, incidence of dust complaints and exceedance of national environmental standards. The data provide additional evidence to inform good practice guidance for dust management in New Zealand. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
