Cost effectiveness of transperineal vs transrectal procedures for prostate biopsies in the UK?

In their analysis published in I Pharmacoeconomics-Open i , used decision-tree analysis and Markov modelling to estimate the lifetime costs and quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) of each biopsy approach from a UK NHS perspective. Researchers from the UK have found that transperineal, ultrasound-guided local anaesthesia biopsy devices may be more cost effective than transrectal biopsy if per-procedure acquisition costs are under £81 and cost neutral if under £41.
