Abstract
- In their analysis published in I Pharmacoeconomics-Open i , used decision-tree analysis and Markov modelling to estimate the lifetime costs and quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) of each biopsy approach from a UK NHS perspective. Researchers from the UK have found that transperineal, ultrasound-guided local anaesthesia biopsy devices may be more cost effective than transrectal biopsy if per-procedure acquisition costs are under £81 and cost neutral if under £41. Transperineal biopsy resulted in an ICER[1] of less than £20 000 per QALY gained at a per-procedure device acquisition cost below £81, and achieved cost neutrality at an acquisition cost of £41.
