Abstract

From the visibility, fundamental quality of modern scientific communication, scientific journals in their eagerness to be included and maintained within the mainstream, continually undergo the evaluation and selection of various global databases. The main selection guidelines include not only its quality of content, punctuality, ethical practices, review or analysis of citations, but also the quality of internationality of the journal. The presence of this last requirement, with special emphasis on the other parameters, makes emerging journals consider it, preceded by digitalization, as a parameter to be achieved in its evolution as a leading, referent or excellence journal. It is important to know the determinants of the internationalization of journals and reflect on the challenges that this implies. There is the presence of factors that are causes and consequences of internationalization, such as multilingualism, informativity, acceptability and intertextuality of the issues addressed, according to the digitalization of content and editorial processes, within a virtuous circle of difficult access for emerging magazines in traditional or printed format.
