The article considers the issue of sustainability in the Jewish law. Topics discussed include commandments in the Torah and ethical principles that highlight sustaining the Earth and the creation of God, aspects of the Jewish concept of Tikkun Olam or repairing the world which started in the early stages of the Mishnah of the second century, and the promotion of sustainability and environmental awareness in the legal framework of the Jewish canon.
