Abstract

This study aimed to isolate and identify fungi that cause cutaneous mycoses in patients treated at AMURES' Intermunicipal Health Consortium (CIS), region located around the city of Lages, Santa Catarina, and to correlate them with agents of cutaneous mycoses. Sixty samples were analyzed and four (6.67%) were positive for dermatophytes, being that T. mentagrophytes was the most frequent. The yeast forms of the Candida species were isolated in 35% (21/60) of the analyzed nails, of which 52.3% were for C. krusei. The low positivity rate for the presence of dermatophytes in samples of patients attended in CIS may be due to the scarcity of reproductive structures necessary for identification. The study was critical because mycoses are usually neglected. Few studies report the presence of etiologic agents; most people only receive treatment without prior laboratory diagnosis, which emphasizes the importance of studies that identify epidemiology.
