Abstract

Eczema can be unsightly, itchy, and painful, and can put children at risk for infection when it flares. It can also disturb their sleep and cause embarrassment, while being time-consuming and costly for parents to manage. There is no cure for eczema, but there are many treatment options available to help alleviate the symptoms. Despite the availability of treatments, access to quality products, cost of medications, and a lack of understanding of the treatment plan often leave parents feeling overwhelmed, with children continuing to suffer from chronic itch and pain. Using various educational strategies, nurses can help families navigate the treatment principles and give children the best chance of soothing and repairing their skin while preventing future flares.
