Abstract

• A multidisciplinary petrographic and geotechnical study for soft rocks is proposed. • Apulian carbonate soft rocks are classified in six Dunham-based petrographic classes. • Apulian carbonate soft rocks show weak resistance and high deformability. • Statistical analyses show many links between petrography and geotechnical parameters. • Petrographic features influence the physical and mechanical behavior of soft rocks.
