Abstract

The issue of paid parental leave has enjoyed renewed scholarly attention, especially within medical and public health academic settings. Law school parental leave policies, however, have received less scrutiny. This study examines paid parental leave policies at the law schools housing the top twenty-jive health law programs (n-28). While the majority of schools provide some paid leave, we identified considerable variation among schools and between birth and non-birth parents. This study highlights several issues meriting attention, including inadequate prevalence and duration of paid leave, overreliance on medical and disability leave, and the absence of written leave policies.
