Abstract
- This paper aims to present the Territorial Zoning for Sugarcane in the State of São Paulo (ZTC), which is a counter-proposal to the Agro-environmental Zoning of the Sugar-Alcohol Sector (ZAA). The paper is based on the hypothesis that, since the existence of rural settlements and family agriculture were not considered in ZAA's formulation, the official zonings only serves as an instrument to legitimize the territorial expansion of sugarcane cultivation and agrobusiness to the detriment of family agriculture. At the elaboration of ZTC, in addition to data on edaphoclimatic characteristics and environmental restriction, which are also used by ZAA, we have added data referring to rural settlements and family agriculture territories, that is, to elaborate the ZTC, we considered the existence of multiple territories and the existence of the Agrarian Issue. Lastly, using ZAA and ZTC, we analyzed the expansion of the sugarcane cultivated area in the State of São Paulo from 2003 to 2013. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
