Abstract

In the present study, no okapis were photographed by the few camera traps deployed in the area; and nor were they photographed during the comprehensive study conducted by Chester Zoo, with 37 camera traps, which caught on camera 36 different mammalian species, but no okapis (Nixon et al., 2018). There are also fairly recent reports of active okapis near the SNP: in 2008, okapis were reported approximately eight km south-west of the SNP, in the northern Virunga Reserve (Nixon & Lusenge, 2008).
