Abstract

Eastern mosquitofish (Gambusia holbrooki Girard, 1859) is a small, viviparous, freshwater fish, member of the Poeciliidae family, living in shallow or slow-flowing waters. The paper aims to review several aspects related to the biology of the species and its history in Romania as an introduced species. G. holbrooki is an euribiont species, except for adapting to very low temperatures. The species was introduced in many locations in Romania at the beginning of the last century. Our attempts to identify the species in Transylvania failed, and the last water in Transylvania where it could still be found dried up. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
