Pam Grier inspired new deputy police commish.

The article profiles Joyce A. Stephen recalled how her decision to become a cop was influenced by the 1970s movie series featuring Pam Grier as Foxy Brown, Coffey and Jackie Brown. In the series, Grier played the female version of a super cop going after the criminals. Stephen didn't think at the time she could play the role on television as Grier but could do so in real life and began to chart a course of action. After finishing high school, Stephen immediately matriculated to John Jay College of Criminal Justice and graduated years later with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice.
