Abstract
- Objective: To investigate the causes, treatment and pharmaceutical care of steroid-induced diabetes mellitus. Methods: With the help of relevant literature, the causes of a patient with increased blood glucose during hospitalization were analyzed, and pharmaceutical care for the patient was rendered by clinical pharmacists. Results and Conclusion: The development of steroid-induced diabetes mellitus was related to the long term use of glucocorticoids and the recent increased dosage of the drug. Hypoglycemic drugs could all be used for the treatment of steroid-induced diabetes mellitus. However, reasonable hypoglycemic methods should be adopted according to the blood glucose value and the clinical characteristics of blood glucose in the patients with steroid-induced diabetes mellitus. Clinical pharmacists could improve medication safety and efficacy by timely finding out adverse drug reactions and providing pharmaceutical care in clinical treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
