Abstract

Ceramic materials are used in different engineering applications due to their chemical, mechanical and thermal performance. Alumina or Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) is one of them because of its high mechanical strength and thermal property. The alumina powder was sintered at 1400 ℃ to prepare the sample. Experiments were performed to evaluate the property of the alumina ceramic sample. Properties like porosity, diametral tensile strength (DTS), compression strength were evaluated for these samples. Porosity had a significant effect on the strength of these materials. Two different conditions were used to evaluate the strength of the samples. Change in porosity was made by adding (10 wt. %) corn flour to the powder sample which showed a change in the strength of the sample. Diametral tensile strength (DTS) and compressive strength for the prepared samples were decreased with an increase in porosity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
