The purpose of this paper is a brief literature review to investigate the potential relationship between DNA damage and atherosclerosis. The study material included articles on the subject, found in international databases, such as Google Scholar and PubMed, using the appropriate keywords: DNA damage, atherosclerosis, oxidative stress, and a combination of these. Human atherosclerotic plaques appear to show increased levels of DNA damage. However, additional well-designed studies are needed to further clarify this relationship and identify potential therapeutic targets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
