Abstract
- Since the last decade of the 20th century, some cultural practices and the very survival of entire communities in the region of the Juruá Valley, in Acrean Amazonia, have been impacted by the action of specific civil servants. On behalf of environmental protection institutions, and based on inquiries and inspection reports, these agents have been systematically criminalized the lifestyles of those who have inhabited the forest for centuries, along with their leaders and representatives. Based on excerpts from criminal or administrative proceedings, and considering the relationship between language and culture (CERTEAU, 2000), in this article we seek to problematize the discursive production that reduces different communities of forest dwellers to "environmental criminals", silencing their voices and marginalizing their cultures.
