Abstract
- This paper examines the mechanisms of Brazilian culture, which determine processes of identity construction. Starting from the transcription and musical analysis of the introduction to the arrangement of Brigas Nunca Mais (Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, 1959), composed for solo guitar by Lula Galvão (2017), biographical aspects, aesthetic and idiomatic choices made by the guitarist were analysed aiming the elucidation of technical and concrete procedures in the characterization of a 'Brazilian identity' through its musical repertoire. Our hypothesis points to the understanding of the main musical resources used by Galvão in his arrangement, such as: the use of the 2nd minor, rearmonizations, static basses, passages of free character and idiomatic procedures in the use of the instrument such as bell towers, choices of harmonic routings and voicing, as being directly related to the fluidity of a non-essentialist concept of 'identity' and its recognition in the context of Brazilian popular music.
